Ess-a-Bagel

This is the first installment of my BuzzFeed Eats series. My mission began when I came across a BuzzFeed article called 18 Foods Everyone Must Try Before Leaving NYC. I’ve already eaten a few of the items, but since I don't have any pictures, I haven’t made the posts yet. So once I go back and get to take some photos, I’ll add the entry to my site.

Although I’ve eaten the delicious bagels of Ess-a-Bagel before, I went today to specifically pick up their famous lox bagel. Okay, I sort of changed it a bit, but I kept the essence the same. 1. I got the ingredients and made the sandwich myself. 2. I got Nova instead of Lox. (Close enough. The only difference is that nova is cured with a milder brine than lox.)

I was happy to cross item number 1 off the BuzzFeed list, but I was also happy to eat a bagel that I often had when I was younger, much younger. I remember having my dad help me cut the bagel in half and then spreading scallion cream cheese on one half and whitefish spread on the other. With the nova in the middle, I had created the perfect bagel sandwich that provided me with countless hearty meals.

This sandwich was everything I remember. The bagel was soft inside, but had a crispy crust. It was also hot when I bought it. The nova was tender and not stringy and the spreads were great too! If you couldn’t tell by this post, I really liked the bagel. :D
