Father-Daughter bonding over Moroccan chicken
I remember this place as an introduction to Moroccan food and a time shared with my dad. I was in the midst of SAT preparation and I had just taken a full practice test, no insignificant achievement at the time. He had picked me up from the testing center to get a late dinner and told me to pick a place. I remembered I’d had good ‘Moroccan’ food before and wanted to get something I didn’t usually have access to. Fortunately, this was a time when my memory had failed me (I’d actually had Ethiopian food before, which I love, but it’s not at all the same).
My dad likes to use Open Table, so using his app to find a good Moroccan place, we ended up at Zerza. We were seated at a small table for two in one corner. The restaurant was relatively empty and dimly lit. It had beautiful, geometric metal lamp fixtures that cast intricate shadows on the walls. I remember being nervous about the SATs and it was during the drive on the way to Zerza and over dinner that he had given me one of his most memorable pep talks, which I’ll cherish forever.
We ordered Chicken Tagine Lemon, which was a slow cooked marinated chicken with lemons and olives. It came stewing in a broth in the shallow dish and I remember admiring it for its juiciness and the spices.
