hipsters and quill pens
Three friends coming from three different places, meeting up in Flatbush, Brooklyn ~
Dinner: As one friend described it: "Flatbush is split between hipsters and Hasids (Orthodox Jews)." Dinner perfectly sums up the intersection of communities - V Spot, a vegan kosher restaurant. While a bit pricey, their avocado fries and BLT were amazing.
Dessert: An artisinal doughnut shop, selling a wide variety of flavored doughnuts for around $3 a piece is the image of Brooklyn transforming into the new Manhattan of NYC. Brooklyn may not have as many highrises, but its boutiques and increasingly expensive property and food seem to indicate this shift.* I had to make a note of the doughnut I had - coffee cake. It wasn't the usual cinnamon brown sugar crumble on top, but instead ground coffee and brown sugar with a mocha cream filling.
I'd eat it again.
*This is only my observation.
